A Prayer for a Mother in Waiting
This post was inspired by my many friends in the computer struggling to conceive, who have coped with loss upon loss and deal with many heartbreaks and questions on a daily basis, and especially my friend Sam who is on her knees praying for all to go well and Kimbal who has to deal with the very difficult news she shared with us today, O! and Charne, who’s looking for answers, and Sharon who is relentlessly seeking and hoping, and Katherine who’s dealing with her loss, and Tam who is very excited…and all the many, many others…walking in their shoes…
A Prayer for a Mother in Waiting
Dear God,
May you soothe her heart and hold her hand
May you quiet her storms and break her fall
May you refresh her hope and kindle her faith
May you be known to her as grace, love and strength
At the beginning of her journey
May you grow her understanding
And guide her to wisdom
And show her the width and depth of a parent’s love
And may she understand that she is loved
As she loves the one she’s waiting for
During the toughest battles
May you make her stand tall
To shield her hope from doubt and fear
Untangle her thoughts and quiet her waters
Guide her to wait in peace
During her losses
Make her understand
that she has done no wrong
that she has to carry no blame
that she will heal with time
like a branch snapped in the wind
only to be stronger at her broken places
may she understand that she will always be a mother
because she knows she’s waiting
and she knows who she’s waiting for
And when she finally returns from her battle
With or without a child
May you bind up her wounds
And show her the width and depth of a parent’s love
And may she understand that she is loved
As she loves the one she is waiting for
But mostly, dear God,
would you hounor her faith and hear her prayers
